A second number on the phone you already have.

Texts, calls and voicemail on their own US or Canadian number, kept apart from your main line. No new SIM, no second phone, and no phone number needed to sign up.

Texting turns on once US carriers approve our texting program. Calls and voicemail don't need that approval.

Everything a phone line does, on a number of its own

Give it to buyers, dates, landlords and clients. Your own number stays with the people who already have it.

Texts and picture messages

SMS and MMS with replies, reactions, drafts and group chats. One tick when the carrier takes a text, two when it's delivered.

Turns on once US carriers approve our texting program.

Calls that ring like calls

Calls to your second number ring on the lock screen, with mute, speaker, keypad and hold, and show which of your numbers they called.

Voicemail you can read

Every voicemail comes with a written transcript. Record your own greeting, or have voicemails emailed to you.

Quiet hours and auto-reply

Do Not Disturb on a schedule, business hours for a work line, and an automatic reply to missed calls and texts.

Spam filter and blocking

Block a number in two taps, move suspected spam into its own folder, and silence callers who aren't in your contacts.

Scheduled and disappearing messages

Write now and send later, set a chat to disappear, and keep quick replies a tap away.

App lock

Keep your second line behind Face ID, your fingerprint or a passcode.

Up to 3 numbers

On the 3 Lines plan, keep work, selling and personal apart, each number with its own inbox, voicemail and settings.

Calls and texts abroad

Reach other countries with credits. The app shows the rate before you dial, and nothing is charged unless the call connects.

Three steps to your second number

Download the app

Sign up with email, Apple or Google. No phone number and no card.

Pick your number

Choose a US or Canadian area code, or search for digits you like. Most numbers are yours the moment you confirm; if a free one needs a few days on your phone, the app tells you why and when.

Call and text

Share it with anyone you like. Calls, voicemail and texts arrive in the app, apart from your main number.

Six color themes, light or dark

Pick Cobalt, Indigo, Electric, Sky, Lilac or Orange, in light or dark, or let it follow your phone. The app icon can change with the theme.

Know this before you rely on it

Every second-number app has limits. Here are ours, before you download.

It is not a 911 service

If you dial 911 or another emergency number in the app, it hands the call to your phone's own dialer, so it goes through your mobile carrier with your location.

Some services refuse it for codes

It's an internet (VoIP) number, and some banks and apps won't send sign-in codes to one. We never promise that a code will arrive.

A free number needs a visit

Open the app at least once every 90 days and the number stays yours. If you don't, we remind you three times, then hold it 30 more days so you can get it back. Any paid plan keeps it for you.

It needs an internet connection

Calls and texts travel over Wi-Fi or mobile data. Without either, your second number can't ring, and texts wait until you're back online.

The exact number rules

Free to keep. Pay only if you want more.

We never charge for something that didn't happen. A text that fails or a call that doesn't connect costs nothing.

Questions people ask first

Is it really free?

Yes. The free plan gives you one US or Canadian number, texting within fair use, incoming calls and 100 outgoing US and Canada minutes a month. It shows one ad in your messages list and nowhere else. Paid plans remove the ad and add more.

Do I need a SIM card or a second phone?

No. 2nd Phone Line is an app on the phone you already have, and it works over Wi-Fi or mobile data. Your main number keeps working as before.

Do I have to give you my phone number?

No. Sign up with an email address, with Apple or with Google. We never ask for your existing number.

Will it work for verification codes?

Sometimes, and we won't pretend otherwise. Your number is an internet (VoIP) number, and some banks, apps and social networks refuse those for sign-up codes. Whether a code arrives depends on the service sending it, so don't make it the only recovery number for an account you can't afford to lose.

How long do I keep my number?

As long as you keep using it. Open the app at least once every 90 days and the number stays yours. If you don't, we remind you three times, then hold the number 30 more days so you can reclaim it. Any paid plan keeps your number for as long as you subscribe.

Can I call 911?

Not through 2nd Phone Line. If you dial an emergency number in the app, it hands the call to your phone's own dialer so it goes through your mobile carrier.

Which countries can I get a number in?

A free number is in the United States or Canada. Numbers in many other countries are a monthly add-on, and you can call and text abroad with credits.

Can I take my number with me?

Yes. You can port your number out to another carrier, and we don't block a valid request. Here's how.
